This is the obituary for my grandfather, Paul Jarrell, Jr. If you knew him or are close to the family, feel free to share in honor of his memory, as we cannot have a memorial service in these hard times.
Paul Harlan Jarrell, Jr., passed away peacefully on March 31st of 2020. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Jarrell.
Paul — called Papa by his grandchildren — was born on August 11th, 1940 in Poe, Missouri, to Mr. Paul “Cotton” Jarrell, Sr., and Mrs. Daisy Jarrell. He had three younger siblings: Jesse Jarrell, Ruth Warren, and the late Larry Jarrell. A follower of Christ from his earliest days, Paul grew up in church. There, in his teens, he met and married the late Peggy Jarrell, with whom he raised five children: daughters Tira Brake (late Mitchell), Chanda Anderson-Pogue (Jeff), and Jessica Jarrell, and sons Jeff Jarrell (Barb) and Roger Jarrell, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by grandchildren Ethan Anderson, Tyler Anderson, and Rylan Pogue. He was loved fiercely by his small and tight-knit family.
Paul had many things in life he was proud of. He spent over 17 years working at Rowe Furniture, where he was an exceptional manager. After an early retirement, he spent his later life as an independent and talented furniture upholsterer, owning and operating “PJ’s Upholstery” out of his home. He enjoyed NASCAR and vehicle mechanics, old Westerns, and gas station cappuccino. Perhaps most importantly, Paul was a strong Christian, and was dedicated to serving the church in any way he could. He was, at multiple points throughout his life, a church elder, a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, and a choir director. He had an intimate knowledge of the Bible and shared the Word with many people. Currently, he is enjoying his long-awaited retirement with Christ in Heaven and will remain there for eternity.
Obituary written by Ethan Anderson, eldest grandson of Paul Jarrell. I love you, Papa.
